Our first visits with you are usually about two hours long. The first hour will be spent with the doctor and his assistant. As part of our comprehensive exam for new patients we always need a full mouth xray series within the last five years. If you have had one recently and can get copies of it that would be great. If not, we will take the necessary xrays to complete your comprehensive exam. During this time we will evaluate your periodontal tissues, or the gum and bone around your teeth. We will determine the health of your gum tissues and what type of cleaning would be the best therapy for you. If you do not have many issues then a regular cleaning or “prophy” will usually do the job and you will be done in one visit. If you have gum disease it will require more work and deeper cleanings to address this underlying disease. This will usually take multiple visits and we will come up with a plan that fits you and your schedule well.
